The weird events and cases compelled British Biologist - Jeremy Wade - to investigate what's been happening beneath the river. Reason is, the attacks only occur in one area, along the riverbed which is approximately 6 to 8 km long. That area, according to the locals, is a site where they usually drown the bodies of their relatives after they'd been burned.
After investigating using depth-measuring apparatuses, he made sure there were no holes found within the riverbank, so that means, the attacks didn't happen because of water turbulence.
Not long after the investigation, about 1 km from the last attack site, an ox which was drinking from the river which has a depth of 1m, was attacked and dragged by something which has emerged from the water.
"Whatever managed to drag that ox must have weigh about 90 to 140 kilograms," stated Wade on July 29th 2010. During the investigation, he found a goonch catfish, a relative to the catfish which has a length of 1 meter. However, they failed to catch the fish. Further investigations stated that they've found a group of them and 6 of them are as big as an adult human.
Failed to catch the fish using a fishing rod, Wade tried to fool the fish by using some wood and assembled them as if they were rafts used for the drowning ceremony. It was successful.
A goonch catfish which has the lenght of 1,8 meters and weighing 75,5 kilograms, or 3 times the weight of other goonch, was successfully caught. This fish was thought to be large enough and strong enough to eat the little child, but wasn't enough to attack and drag the ox.
Wade concluded that the catfish had been mutating to grow fond of human flesh. It also grew to that humongous size due to the constant consumption of human flesh which had been drowned during the ceremonial burial.
But wait, if that fish isn't big enough to attack the ox, then what could had had attacked the ox?. One thing's for sure though, the world is full of unsolved mysteries.
